The Discovery of a prop ship sunk for the film 'Old Ironsides' in 1926

Location: Catalina Harbor, Catalina Island, California

Dubbed by then adversary Lord Admiral Nelson as “the most bold and daring act of the age" the legendary 1804 role played by U.S.S. Intrepid was recreated on the silver screen by two vessels for the 1926 full-length feature film "OLD IRONSIDES". During production, several vessels were destroyed for real to allow for a more believable spectacle, and one of these vessels was the sloop re-rigged yacht "Los Amigos" which was stuffed full of dynamite and given a climactic finish like her historical counterpart.

Join us as we explore the history of the REAL U.S.S. Intrepid, and then head aboard with us on our first ever fully-donor-funded, live-streamed expedition which glimpsed the shattered remnants of Los Amigos aka 'INTREPID' for the first time in almost 100yrs!
